    The fact that the #ERA is still not officially par The fact that the #ERA is still not officially part of our Constitution is yet another stain on our country. Equal protection under the law should not be a debate. @mrsam_fxonhulu - MRS. AMERICA: Sadly so much of the dialogue and events that transpired could be 2020. But the fact that it was the 70s and these women had the wherewithal to crush and break down the doors they did is remarkable. I am utterly and profoundly in awe of these women who blazed the trail. Mrs. America on HULU is compulsory watching for all. It's sophisticated, layered, and immensely entertaining. Every single performance was stellar but esp brilliant are Cate Blanchett, Uzo Aduba, and Margo Martindale. I remember meeting the force that is @gloriasteinem. I had butterflies for weeks knowing that I was giving a speech with her in the audience. When I met her I told her that I told my husband if he didn't get a good picture of us, I wouldn't sleep with him for a week. With a chuckle, she retorted, "a month, a month!" 😉😊 The hug and words she whispered to me after my speech are moments I will forever cherish. I get goosebumps thinking about it. Betty Freidan, Bella Abzug, Gloria Steinem, Shirley Chisholm, Jill Ruckelshaus, and more- to the millions we've never heard of that paved the way in little and big ways and got SO MUCH SHIT, we owe you so much.     My day started with my 2 littles jumping on me (in My day started with my 2 littles jumping on me (insanely early!) as they were so excited to give me their cards. ❤️ Then they said they would need them back after I was done reading as they really liked them. 😂This afternoon, my oldest slipped this note under my door where I was working. 😊 They've informed me there are many more surprises to come. 😉 Birthdays have always been a mixed bag for me. But no more. I am grateful for every day I get to keep at it. I spent way too much time thinking about the alternative this past year, and know how lucky I am.     It was 2005 and LOOKING FOR COMEDY IN THE MUSLI It was 2005 and LOOKING FOR COMEDY IN THE MUSLIM WORLD was supposed to premiere. But in light of events at the time, Sony told Albert (Brooks) they wouldn't release the film unless he took 'Muslim' out of the title. True story. He refused and Steve Bing had his back and took the film to Warner's who eventually released the film. This is just one of the many stories I have about Steve Bing. Yes, he financed the film and took us to Dubai on his private jet for the fabulous premiere. But it was the little things and thoughtfulness he would show that really struck me. Like when he and I did a talkback with an Islamic center when the movie was coming out- something he graciously made the time for. He and Albert genuinely cared about putting positive representation into the world, esp post 9/11. One of my favorite restaurants in LA is Crossroads and I would frequent it every time I was in town. What a delight to find Steve there almost every time (he was an investor). He was always kind to me, my family and any of my friends who were with me. He wanted me to email him and keep him updated on everything I was doing. He was a champion for so many and put his money where his heart was. I am stunned hearing the news of his death yesterday.     I have known #AnitaMalik for over 10 years and hav I have known #AnitaMalik for over 10 years and have always been struck by her work ethic and most importantly, her integrity. She hasn't faltered even when her family was dealt some really tough blows. That is why I wanted to help get her elected in any way that I can.     I wrote this piece for @thrive more than a year ag I wrote this piece for @thrive more than a year ago and sadly, it is more relevant than ever. I wrote it because I was on my book tour and kids kept asking me what they should if the bully was as grown up. My heart sank deeper every time. https://thriveglobal.com/stories/but-what-if-the-bully-is-a-grown-up/ I wrote #AlwaysAnjali because I wanted there to be a book about a child of color that wasn't centered around a holiday or religion. I wanted brown kids to see they were the heroes of their own stories. I wanted our kids to see themselves as part of the American mainstream, while celebrating where they came from. That's what makes us great. In light of current events, I have gotten several messages about how to talk to our kids about racism and more. AlwaysAnjali.com has a teaching guide that is free and easy to download to help start the conversation. Our kids want to talk about this. They need to talk about this. If you'd like to send me questions, please do, and if you're comfortable with me posting the exchange so others can benefit, let me know.     It was 2006 and @mslynnchen and I had been cast in It was 2006 and @mslynnchen and I had been cast in a pilot for NBC called The Singles Table. Who knew that my then bingo partner between takes would become one of my dearest friends, collaborators, and confidantes over the years. We shot 6 episodes of that show and it never made it to air. Such is this business. Such is the artist life. Lynn and I have been through a lot together. I've lost count but know we've worked together at least 4 times. We've faced many struggles together and celebrated tremendous milestones. I've taken some of my favorite walks with Lynn. As is the reason for this post. I know what it takes to put out a film. To put your heart and soul out there to create. Against all odds, Lynn not only persevered, but made a beautiful film, I WILL MAKE YOU MINE (@sxsw selection!). It's about all the shades of love, expectation, and our past. She wrote, directed, produced, and starred. That is no small feat. But not a surprise if you know @mslynnchen. It's streaming now. I can't tell you how often I got and still get that question about #icantthinkstraight. My answer then and now has always simply been, "No. Love is love and when I read this script, I was deeply taken with the beautiful love story Shamim brought to life. It was a privilege to tell this story." The politics and societal reactions to the film was something I was naively unprepared for. I couldn't fathom how some could send me messages filled with such hate and loathing. Even death threats. I also couldn't have imagined how much of an impact this and #TheWorldUnseen have made around the world. For those who finally saw themselves and feel a connection to these characters, it means the world. It's more than any actor could wish for. As someone who is trying to make the world a little better from my little world, I choose to focus on the love. And for those of you who still don't get it, I'm here, ready to welcome you to the other side, the side of love, acceptance, and respect, with open arms.
