Trust me. @equalitynoworg is an incredible organization that I have had the privilege of working with for years. They are the gold standard in fighting for equality globally and do tremendous work. I cannot say enough about them- they truly impress me more and more. They even won the International Gender Equality Prize last year for changing discriminatory laws across the world. This year, their gala will be virtual of course but what is super cool is that for the first time, they will be able to bring in folks from around the world to participate. And LOOK AT THIS LINEUP! The tribute to RBG by Gloria Steinem is plenty but look at everyone else slated to be there! What's even cooler is that they've decided to make the event FREE!! They want as many people to come and experience what they do- all ages and backgrounds. So do RSVP and I'll see you there! Sheetal joined me on the podcast back in 2018 to talk about ALWAYS ANJALI, her picture book debut published by @mangoandmarigoldpress. I loved reading about Anjali, a life-loving, friend-hugging kid who was teased for her name. The strength and resilience shown in that story was something that I also saw in lots of the children I teach. BRAVO ANJALI, the upcoming sequel expected in September 2021, is described this way: "For Anjali, playing the tabla is something that comes naturally. She loves the feel of the drum beneath her fingers and getting lost in the music. But when the boys in her class give her a hard time for being better than them, she messes up on purpose. When her teacher announces a contest where the winner will get to perform with him at his next concert, Anjali is perplexed. Winning the contest would be a dream for Anjali. But it seems like the better she gets, the meaner some of the kids are. In this follow up to Always Anjali, Anjali realizes that she should never let anyone make her feel bad for being good at something.
