I love how many more folks became engaged over this past year and I thought it'd be great to talk about how we can bring our values and that commitment to fairness and equality into our everyday lives more. I'm thrilled that one of my favorite people, @deepaviyer , has agreed to join me on #IGlive this Friday. Her work speaks for itself and we are lucky to have her help guide us and talk us through aligning our choices with our values. Little more about Deepa: Deepa Iyer is a writer, lawyer, and social change activist. She is the Director of Movement Building at the Building Movement Project where she curates the widely-used social change ecosystem map and a project on transformative solidarity practices. Deepa is the author of We Too Sing America: South Asian, Muslim, Arab, and Sikh Immigrants Shape A Multiracial Future and the former executive director of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT). Sheth has been a #trailblazer for women of color across media with 20 feature film roles and many TV show appearances under her belt as well as numerous awards throughout her compelling career. We talk about the things she actually enjoyed this year, how she fell in love with writing children’s books, her extensive background working with kids, and how the process of writing is a form of therapy for her. She gives me the backstory on her #alwaysanjali series-which is the first picture book series that features a South Asian hero- how she doesn’t like to distinguish between “boy” and “girl” content, and how the series has come out at such an opportune time. I ask her about some of her seminal film roles, when she decided to go public about her #cancerfight , why being a mentor is so important to her, and some of the fantastic non-profits she is currently involved with. Sheetal’s story is a beautiful amalgam of strength, perseverance, grit and heart.
